Facts: LED’s will start replacing light bulbs sooner that expected. LED’s have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, most HID and fluorescent sources have lamp lives of 20,000 hours or less. LED’s provide tremendous savings in energy, maintenance, and materials over conventional lighting sources.

When 25 percent of the light bulbs in the U.S. are converted to LED’s putting out 150 lumens per watt (higher than the commercial standard now), the U.S. as a whole could save $115 billion in utility costs, cumulatively, by 2025, and it would alleviate the need to build 133 new coal-burning power stations. Carbon emissions in the atmosphere would go down by 258 million metric tons.
